Sysnet's new media solution up for top education marketing award
Sysnet client West Lothian College are so pleased with their multi-media induction CD-ROM that they have nominated it for a Scottish Further Education Marketing Award 2004.
The CD-ROM, developed and produced by Sysnet was commissioned primarily to streamline the induction of part-time students and provide some "take home value" for all students.
With an intake of around 6,000 students requiring induction in to West Lothian College's education and support programmes each year, the College was looking for a tool that the students could access at any time during their studies and would present them with everything they need to know about the college in one easy to use and interesting source.
"We've never done anything like this before and felt we needed a a company with experience of the sector to deliver this project. We have worked with Sysnet before on the 2LC project http://www.2lc.info which was also a ground breaking project for the partners involved and again they have delivered" says Marketing and Information Executive, Pamela McCormack.
The induction CD-ROM mixes video footage, interviews, tour-guides and PDF documents all linked via an interactive menu system and custom soundtrack to create a comprehensive resource that is well structured and easy to use. Social inclusion is important and subtitles and larger text options support those with visual or auditory impairment.
"West Lothian College has recently re-branded and the CD-Rom is a great extension to the College's communications. This has been a successful and fun project and a great way of presenting a lot of information in an easy to use form" says Heather Dunk, Assistant Principal, and the instigator of the project. "The CD-Rom is an innovative way of inducting students. Several other colleges have expressed an interest in using a similar format for their induction process in the future".
Short-listed solutions will be announced in January with winners being presented with their award at a Gala dinner on the 19th February.
